Ingram Becomes the Tide’s First

After all the great years in Alabama football history, it was not until last night where the historic football program earned its first Heisman Trophy.   Sophomore running back, Mark Ingram, took the 75th Heisman in a historic ballot.

It was the year of the running back after several quarterback winners in the decade.  Tebow, Bradford, and it was suppose to be Texas’ quarterback Colt McCoy’s year.  However after a disappointing Big XII Championship game performance, McCoy was dropped to third in the voting.  Mark Ingram, on the other hand, dominated in the SEC Championship, thus jolting him to the top of the Heisman voters, and giving him the hardware.

Stanford running back, Toby Gerhart, finished in second place.  Gerhart made it a historic battle, as he finished only 28 points become Ingram as the closest finish between a winner and runner-up.  Gerhart was on a 8-4 team that probably cost him the Heisman, even though he led the NCAA in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.

Congrats to Mark Ingram, and even to Toby Gerhart on their Heisman battle, and for two great seasons at the running back position.
